How do you like
your bedding to feel?
Compare the range
Not good → better → best. Just different.
We compare three things, because warmth alone doesn’t tell you how a comforter actually feels to sleep under.
Snuggle Fleece
All Seasons
Light, easy everyday comfort
Best for
Warmer sleepers, warmer months, or anyone who prefers lighter bedding that still feels cosy.
Snuggle Fleece
Original
Warm winter comfort without the heaviness
Best for
Anyone wanting genuine winter warmth without a heavy feel. Warm without feeling heavy, feels right from the first night.
Snuggle Fleece
Checkered
Cosy weight with a textured feel
Best for
Sleepers who like the feeling of weight, and bedding that looks considered as well as feeling it.
Velvet Collection
Velvet
Smooth, warm and cocooning
Best for
Sleepers who want smooth, close warmth, and love the look of velvet on the bed.
Rabbit Collection
Rabbit
The softest comforter in the range
Best for
Cold sleepers who want to feel wrapped in something genuinely luxurious, soft, plush, and indulgent from the very first night.
Snuggle Fleece
Heavy Weight
Extra warmth for seriously cold nights
Best for
Those who feel the cold. Designed for everyday use in cold climates or cold bedrooms, reliable warmth, every night.
Worth knowing
Why heavier doesn’t always mean warmer.
The Checkered feels heavier than the Original. The Velvet feels denser. But neither is warmer.
With a regular quilt, the fill does all the work, more fill, more warmth. Our comforters are built differently. The outer fabrics trap warmth too. That’s why the Original, with Snuggle fleece on both sides, often feels warmer than a standard quilt of similar fill weight.
A heavier-feeling comforter isn’t always the warmest one. The three scales show you exactly what’s happening, warmth, weight on body, and fluffiness, so you can choose what’s right for you, not just what looks right on paper.
Some people also have questions about synthetic bedding, whether polyester is safe and what petroleum-derived means for a finished fabric. We’ve addressed that honestly here.
Warmth in plain English
How warm is it, really?
If you’ve always slept under blankets or a doona, here’s how our comforters compare to things you already know.
All Seasons
Similar to a good cotton blanket or a light summer quilt. Cosy without being heavy, fine on its own in mild weather, or layer it up in winter.
Mild warmth
Original
Comparable to a standard winter doona, or two good wool blankets stacked up. Most Australians find this plenty warm for a typical winter night, even in a cool bedroom.
Winter warm
Checkered
About the same warmth as the Original, but feels heavier on the body, like adding a third blanket just for the weight, without extra heat.
Winter warm + weighted
Velvet
Warmth similar to a good winter doona, but with a dense, close feel, like sleeping under a heavy velvet throw rug. Warmer than it looks.
Winter warm + cocooning
Rabbit
The softest comforter in the range, an incredibly plush, cloud-like pile that feels indulgent from the very first night. Warm like a high-quality goose down doona, but with a softness that genuinely sets it apart.
Very warm + luxuriously soft
Heavy Weight
The equivalent of piling three or four heavy blankets on the bed in winter. Designed for people who are always cold, sleep in unheated rooms, or have never been able to get warm.
Maximum warmth
Vs. what you know
No cover. No fuss. The same warmth.
If you’ve been using a quilt your whole life, here’s what’s different.
A regular quilt or doona
- Requires a separate cover
- The insert can shift inside overnight
- Washing the insert and cover separately takes more effort
- Warmth varies depending on how the insert is sitting
A Morgan & Reid comforter
- No cover needed, pull it up and you’re done
- Fill stays in place, consistent warmth, every night
- Easy to care for, gentle machine wash, tumble dry low
- The same comfort on night one and night one hundred
Common questions
Frequently asked
Which Morgan & Reid comforter is the warmest?
The Heavy Weight is the warmest comforter in the range. It has a 500 GSM microfibre fill with Snuggle fleece on both sides, the equivalent of piling three or four heavy blankets on the bed. If you want maximum warmth with an exceptionally soft feel, the Rabbit comforter is also a strong choice.
What is the most popular Morgan & Reid comforter?
The Snuggle Fleece Original is the most popular comforter in the range. It has a 250 GSM microfibre fill with Snuggle fleece on both sides. It provides warm winter comfort without feeling heavy and suits the widest range of sleepers.
What is the difference between the Original and Heavy Weight?
Both use Snuggle fleece on both sides. The Original has a 250 GSM microfibre fill, warm winter comfort without the heaviness. The Heavy Weight has a 500 GSM microfibre fill and is significantly warmer and heavier on the body.
Do Morgan & Reid comforters need a doona cover?
No. Morgan & Reid comforters do not require a separate doona cover. The outer fabric is the finished surface, pull it up and it is ready to use. No insert to stuff, no shifting overnight, no separate cover to wash. Machine washable on a gentle cycle, tumble dry low.
What is the difference between the Checkered and Velvet comforters?
Both offer similar warmth to the Original and feel heavier on the body. The Checkered has a 300 GSM textured face fabric. The Velvet has a smooth, dense 250 GSM velvet face with a close, cocooning feel. Neither is warmer than the Original despite feeling heavier.
Is polyester bedding safe?
Yes. Polyester is an engineered textile polymer used for decades in bedding, clothing, and medical textiles. There is no mainstream scientific evidence that normal use of polyester bedding causes harm through skin contact. We’ve addressed this in full on our materials page.
